Electronics fair CES closes a day earlier due to an increase in corona infections

The upcoming CES 2022 electronics trade show, which will take place in Las Vegas from January 5, will end a day earlier. The organization is taking this step because of the increased number of corona infections in the US. Besides physical, the fair also partly takes place online.

According to the organization Shortening the stock market is an additional safety measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Visitors must already be fully vaccinated, and it requires visitors to pre-test for Covid-19 less than 24 hours before entering the event. Visitors are given a self-test by the organization. In addition, face masks are mandatory and international visitors can take a PCR test at the event before flying back home.

What undoubtedly also plays a role is that many large companies will not be physically present at the fair. In recent days, AMD, MSI, Microsoft, Google, Intel, Lenovo, Amazon, Meta, T-Mobile, General Motors and Hisense, among others, canceled. Also many tech media, including , will not be present at the event in Las Vegas. Despite this, the organization says that 2200 exhibitors have confirmed for the fair. Big names that haven’t canceled yet are Samsung, Sony and LG.

The organization does not plan to cancel the fair for the time being, because it believes that the fair can take place safely with the safety measures taken and because it does not expect as many visitors as in previous years. Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, said in the press release that the organization “is steadfast in its promise to be a meeting place to showcase products and discuss ideas that ultimately make our lives better.”

For those who cannot travel to Las Vegas, the event will also take place digitally, just like last year. More than forty sessions, keynotes and press conferences are planned. Nvidia and AMD, among others, are organizing a virtual keynote presentation. OnePlus, which itself would not be present during CES, will organize a press conference parallel to CES, where more information may also be shared about the OnePlus 10 Pro. CEO Pete Lau confirmed a week and a half ago that the phone will be announced “in January”.
