Web Archive has made the source code of Far Cry 1 available online. However, it appears to be an incomplete working version, although it could become fully functional. The download size is slightly over 70MB.

While the game’s assets are missing, game modder Vinícius Medeiros states that the game can be compiled and run using the source code and assets from the complete game. Reviews posted under the upload on Web Archive also show users who have successfully compiled the game using assets from version 1.33, while the upload itself is of version 1.34.

Far Cry, released in 2004, was the first game developed by the German studio Crytek. The Far Cry series has since expanded to include six installments. The reasons behind the release of the source code for the first game, and the timing of it, remain unknown.
