Windows 11 is gradually becoming more streamlined as a number of major bugs have been fixed. Now it seems it’s only a matter of time before the taskbar regains a long-awaited feature, although it may take until the end of 2022.

Windows Latest reports that the ability to pin apps to the taskbar by dragging them on is returning. The feature is said to be in the testing phase at Microsoft.

According to sources from Microsoft, this feature is coming to preview versions of Windows 11 in a few months. However, a final release will have to wait until later in 2022.

In addition, fixes are on the way for minor issues affecting the taskbar, such as the battery icon that can show a charge percentage above 100% on some laptops. This has been fixed in beta 22523 of Windows 11 and a final release appears to be on the way.

Analysis: better late than never

The Windows 11 taskbar is an annoyance for many users. Microsoft has changed the taskbar quite a bit in its latest operating system, but most of the changes have not been welcomed with open arms. Mainly because of the removal of the ability to drag and drop apps to pin them.

Fortunately, Microsoft sees the irritation among users and a fix is on the way, but it is somewhat disappointing that we may have to wait until autumn 2022.

Once a year, Windows delivers a major software update for its operating system. We expect this feature to become part of that. We may wait until September or October for this update to appear.

We were hoping Microsoft would come up with a fix sooner, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case.
