Security is also one of the most important points of attention for companies in 2002. According to the research and collaboration of analytics and security specialist Neustar, the Neustar International Security Council (NISC), companies will increase their security budget again in 2022.

According to the survey available to members only, more than four out of five companies will soon increase their budget for security. In almost a quarter of these cases, the budget will increase by a percentage of between 31 and 50 percent. Of the rest, around 41 percent are expected to grow their budget between 11 and 30 percent. It is not known how much the remaining quarter of the total number of companies surveyed will spend on more security.

Reducing ‘skills gap’

An important destination for this money is to narrow the current ‘skills gap’ of companies in the field of security. A lot of money will be spent on hiring new specialists and on solutions from suppliers. About 71 percent of the respondents indicate that they are becoming more dependent on these third parties. About half indicated that they will use the extra money to recruit their own security personnel.

Cyber insurance is widely accepted

In addition, companies are also seriously considering other ways to protect themselves against cyber attacks. Think, for example, of taking out cyber insurance. According to the researchers, this type of insurance against cyber attacks is becoming increasingly popular and also more accepted as a form of security. Almost half of the respondents have already taken out such insurance and almost everyone considers this a worthwhile investment.

Fear of DDoS attacks

The research also shows that companies are mainly afraid of DDoS attacks. The survey shows that a large proportion of the respondents have been the victim of a DDoS attack at some point in the past year. In addition, the number of DDoS attacks on companies in the past year – compared to the period before the current pandemic – is said to have increased by half.
