Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its Vision EQXX concept car. According to the manufacturer, it is the most efficient car Mercedes has produced to date. The automaker claims that the car can reach a range of 1000 km based on its own tests.
Mercedes-Benz is showing the Vision EQXX at the CES electronics fair. During that fair, the manufacturer reports that the electric concept car delivers a power of 150 kW, which translates into approximately 201 hp. According to the automaker, the car can reach a range of 1000 km on a single battery charge. According to Mercedes, this estimated range is shown by ‘a simulation of realistic traffic conditions’. However, the car has not yet undergone independent testing procedures such as the WLTP.
The automaker claims it is “the most efficient car Mercedes has ever produced”, with claimed energy consumption of less than 10kWh per 100km and a total battery capacity of “nearly 100kWh”. According to Mercedes, that battery has 50 percent less volume and 30 percent less mass than that of the current Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Mercedes itself claims that it has reached this range by focusing on ‘maximizing efficiency’, in collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 and Formula E departments. The car weighs in its entirety about 1750 kg, reports the manufacturer. The company also provides the roof of the concept car with thin solar cells that, according to Mercedes-Benz, can contribute to the range of up to 25 km under ideal conditions. On the interior of the Vision EQXX is a single 47.5″ display that spans the entire width of the car.
Since it is a concept car, the manufacturer has no plans to market the Vision EQXX. It is the intention that techniques from the concept car will be used in other cars of the manufacturer in the future.
