Azul Systems, a provider of a Java-based cloud services platform, recently introduced its Intelligence Cloud portfolio. Key to this portfolio is the new Kubernetes-based Cloud Native Compiler for compiling Java Code.

With the new Intelligence Cloud portfolio, the cloud-based Java specialist wants to add more intelligence to its existing platform solution for big data, among other things. This gives this platform more functionality for analyzing and optimizing large amounts of Java code. These solutions should also provide more information, so that action can be taken immediately.

Cloud Native Compiler

With the introduction of the Kubernetes-based Cloud Native Compiler solution, Azul Systems mainly wants to improve production Java runtimes. Until now, these runtimes often worked as isolated and self-sustaining units. In addition, these runtimes were tied to local resources and limited computing power and analytic capabilities.

However, with the cloud-based solution released now, it is possible to separate Just in Time (JIT) compilation from the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Also, it is compatible with all Java based applications and has all the benefits of JIT compilation.

The solution works closely together with the Azul Platform Prime, a high performance Java runtime and the flagship product of the Java specialist. In addition, Cloud Native Compiler provides scalability and uses previously optimized compilations between JVMs. This should improve performance and startup times for all JVMs it is connected to.

Other benefits

Other benefits of the cloud-based solution include strong optimizations and significant cost savings, improving application performance. In the latter case, not only for applications, but also other JVM-based languages such as Java, Scala, Kotlin, Clojure, Apache Groovy and JRuby.

Furthermore, Azul Cloud Native Compiler helps improve JVM-based infrastructure workloads for big data and DBMS like Apache Cassandra, enterprise search like Apache Solr, Elasticsearch and event stream processing (Apache Kafka). The solution also helps prevent unnecessary overprovisioning and “warming up” to full-running JVM workloads.

Cloud Native Compiler is available for free to Azul Platform Prime customers.
