Microsoft will provide Microsoft Teams Rooms with new functionality. This mainly concerns improvements for usability.
The improvements will be implemented in version 4.11.xx.0 of Teams Rooms. The update focuses on the Meet Now experience, among other things. This will be equated with the current Meet functionality of the Teams desktop version. This replaces the ‘New meeting’ function on the MS Teams rooms console with Meet.
With Meet, users can start an ad-hoc meeting with a single click and thus invite participants. Users can add participants from a ‘roster’ search function. The button for Meet is now directly accessible from the home screen.
New calling functionality
In addition to the Meet functionality, the calling functionality in MS Teams Rooms will also be improved. For this, the ‘Dial path’ on the Teams Rooms console is replaced by Call. The Calling application allows users to make ‘normal’ calls. This application also acts as the starting point for Team conversations between two people and joint conversations between multiple callers.
Requirements
However, a Calling subscription – not standard in Teams – is required for this functionality. It must also be possible to search for callers within the organisation. SIP URI Calling is also not available yet, but users can switch their device to ‘Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams mode’ to add a SIP URI entry point in the calling application. In addition, users can use an ‘Enter a URI’ button.
The new version of Microsoft Teams Rooms is expected to roll out in mid-January 2022 and should be completed about a month later.
