OneWeb launched 36 satellites into space in one day. The organization announces that the satellites have successfully entered orbit.
The satellites took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome spaceport in Kazakhstan. OneWeb has had twelve successful launches with the series. The total number of OneWeb satellites grows to 394 units.
The impressive fleet underscores a competition with Starlink, the organization that launches and deploys satellites led by Elon Musk.
The end point is far from being reached. OneWeb aims for a network of 648 satellites. Together, the satellites provide fast, delay-free connections to Earth. OneWeb uses the network to provide LEO (Low Earth Orbit) services.
Year closing
The launch closes a successful year. According to OneWeb, the demand for LEO is increasing. In the past month, the organization partnered with Airbus to provide LEO services to governments. OneWeb also strengthened its regional presence through partnerships with Network Innovations (Canada) and Vocus (Australia).
Regional presence is strategic in nature. OneWeb aims to provide digital communication services in the world’s most remote places. To that end, the organization signed previous agreements with AT&T, Hughes Network Systems, BT and Leonardo DRS.
“I look back on the past year with pride and feel privileged to lead our teams,” said Neil Masterson, CEO of OneWeb. “We look forward to maintaining the pace in 2022.”
