Rubrik launches Cloud Vault. The air-gapped security service enables organizations to store business-critical data in an isolated location.
The location is inaccessible to regular environments. Ransomware attackers have no way of reaching the data. Data in the vault remains usable for the recovery of systems and data, even when other parts of an environment are affected.
The latter is becoming more important every year. Backups have traditionally been the last line of defense against data encryption. Attackers therefore mainly focus on their deterioration. A professional hacking group that succeeds in infiltrating a network has one priority: finding and disabling the backups.
Solutions like Rubrik Cloud Vault are shaking things up to level the playing field. A hacking group’s experience of dozens of successful backup attacks becomes objectionable when a backup environment looks completely different – or no longer exists, as Rubrik Cloud Vault enables.
The solution was built on Microsoft Azure. Data can be stored in an inaccessible safe. Rubrik describes the design as ‘air-gapped’. If there are no roads leading to the environment, a ransomware attacker cannot hit or infect the environment. Only users authenticated with multi-factor authentication can access the vault.
Where and when
Dan Rogers, President of Rubrik, emphasizes that Rubrik Cloud Vault combines Rubrik’s Zero Trust Security platform with Azure Blob Storage. The introduction is therefore mainly interesting for organizations with environments in Azure. Rubrik Cloud Vault will appear in the Azure Marketplace sometime in the coming months.
