Social medium Parler is available again via Google Play Store

The Android app of the social medium Parler can again be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Parler was removed from the app store after the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Google will allow Parler again after the platform has demonstrated that it meets Google’s requirements, a company spokesperson told Reuters. For example, it will remove content that incites violence and ban users who do not follow the rules, for example by spreading hate speech. Parler can be downloaded again from Friday in the Play Store. The Android version of the app can also be downloaded from Parlers website. It was already available there when the platform was still banned from the Play Store.

Parler has been around since 2018 and is an alternative to social media such as Facebook and Twitter. According to the creators of the service, users of those platforms cannot always express their opinions without being banned. The app experienced a revival in popularity in early 2021. This coincided with the storming of the US Capitol on Wednesday, January 6. After this, the app was removed from the Play Store and Apple’s App Store. A few months later, Parler was allowed back into the App Store after proposing plans to improve moderation of messages on the platform.
