Mozilla has added a new feature to Firefox that warns users if they use the same password for multiple accounts, and one of these accounts has been part of a data breach. Firefox already warns users when they log into a website from which user data has been leaked.
Next, Firefox will refer users to Firefox Monitor, which allows users to search for leaked accounts. This service uses the same database as the Have I Been Pwned data leak search engine, but displays the results on its own page, supplemented with advice on secure password usage.
Now the browser also looks at the user’s stored passwords. As soon as it appears that the user has stored the same password in the browser for multiple accounts and that one of these accounts has been part of a data breach, a warning appears that the reuse of password accounts is endangered. A link is then created to the relevant website where users can change the password of their account.
