Zoom recently acquired an online event startup, Liminal Entertainment Technologies. With this, the provider of online meeting and video services is strengthening its portfolio in the field of hosting online events.

With the now announced acquisition of Liminal, the financial details of which have not been disclosed, Zoom is looking to incorporate even more technology into its platform for hosting online events.

Technology Liminal

The startup’s technology, especially the Zoom technology-based add-ons ZoomOSC and ZoomISO, enable professional virtual events. The ZoomOSC add-on enhances professional meetings and events using the Open Sound Control protocol. This allows Zoom to work with third-party software, media servers and hardware controllers.

The ZoomISO add-on allows each participant’s video feed to be exported as a separate output to professional production hardware. This is possible for a total of five feeds with a high definition output.

Expand professional services

The tools, in its own words, allow Zoom to better bridge the gap between emerging and traditional event control tools. This helps broadcast studios, theaters and other event locations, among others, to offer more professional streams. The tools should also help Zoom extend the Events feature for creating event hubs, selling tickets, and creating multiple livestream sessions.

The Liminal tooling will remain available on the startup’s website for the time being, but it will become redundant after the integration in Zoom.
