Smart home company Eve Systems has shown its first camera for outdoor use. The Outdoor Cam is a floodlight camera, which means that it switches on lighting when it detects activity for a better view. The camera should appear in America in April and will cost $250 there.

The video resolution of the outdoor camera is 1080p at 24 frames per second. The security camera has an angle of view of 157 degrees, includes infrared night vision and motion detection at distances of up to nine meters and with a viewing angle of 100 degrees.

Like Eve’s previously released indoor security camera, the device works exclusively with Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video. This means that the video images are stored encrypted via iCloud, so that only the owner can access the images.

The outdoor Eve camera measures 170x65x76mm and includes a microphone and speaker to communicate from a distance with a person standing in front of the camera. The device works with a 2.4GHz WiFi connection.

Unlike similar Netatmo cameras, the Outdoor Cam does not include a Siren option, where the owner is immediately notified if the camera sees an unknown person. It is unclear when Eve’s Outdoor Cam will be on sale in the Benelux and for what price.
