With the acquisition, GitLab hopes to offer the first DevOps platform with a fully-fledged integrated Observability solution.
GitLab went public in October of this year. OpsTrace is the first company to acquire GitLab since its IPO. The financial details of the acquisition are unknown, but the goal is set in stone: OpsTrace’s functionality allows GitLab to monitor software development and fix bugs at an early stage.
While an existing alert and incident management tool from GitLab already provides the latter, the addition of OpsTrace promises to take the solution to the next level.
The Future of GitLab
The main goal is an incorporation of monitoring in the development processes that are performed with GitLab. The integration of OpsTrace into GitLab is in the first phase of a long-term process. The final stage is an incorporation into each step of the development process.
