LG is trying to hit the gaming market with its UltraGear products. The company has announced that a laptop will be added to the range, the 17G90Q. The UltraGear series consists mainly of gaming monitors and speakers. This is the first laptop to carry the UltraGear name.
The 17G90Q is equipped with the latest and most powerful components. According to LG, the device will receive a 11th generation Intel processor (it’s not clear whether it’s an i7 or i9), an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q video card, dual channel RAM and a fast SSD configuration. The laptop has won the CES 2022 innovation award for a reason.
The other features are just as impressive, such as the 17-inch display with a response time of 1ms and an image refresh rate of 300Hz. This allows you to play games up to 300fps, provided they run that well. This makes this laptop an ideal option for competitive gamers and lovers of first-person shooters or battle royale games.
Other notable details about the screen are the 1080p resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Many modern gaming laptops come with a 1440p display. In addition, screens with a 16:10 ratio are becoming increasingly popular.
We don’t know yet what the price of the laptop will be. Given the features, it is wise to start saving in advance. We don’t expect it to be a cheap machine.
The laptop will appear in the United States and South Korea in early 2022, according to LG. Nothing is known yet about the availability. We expect the company to reveal more information about the price and release date in its presentation at CES 2022 on January 4.
Analysis: Not too late
The laptop market is bursting with variety. Another new laptop feels a bit like a drop in a bucket of water. The 17G90Q looks set to be a seriously powerful laptop, but LG needs to do something to differentiate itself from the competition. It seems the company has a strategy.
The design we see in LG’s photos doesn’t look very special, but that could be an advantage. Many of the competition’s gaming laptops, such as Asus ROG and Alienware, are bursting with bright RGB lighting. We are now seeing a trend emerging of hybrid gaming laptops with a more subtle design, making them suitable for gaming and work.
The absence of a typical gamer design makes this a suitable laptop for professionals and students. A higher price tag is then less of a problem. Although LG must be careful that the device does not become too expensive. CES 2022 is just around the corner, so we won’t have to wait long to see what this device is capable of.
